About
Andy McCullough is a composer and music educator currently living in Omaha, Nebraska. Originally from Topeka, Kansas, Dr. McCullough studied at Washburn University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with Music Department honors in 2011, earning a BM in trumpet performance, a BA in music, and a minor in mathematics. After graduating from Washburn, they relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska to study composition at the University of Nebraska, earning a Masters of Music in Composition in 2013 under Dr. Eric Richards and a DMA in Composition under Dr. Tyler White in 2017.
As a composer, Dr. McCullough has presented works at Electronic Music Midwest four times and won a Fifteen Minutes of Fame competition and had a short piece premiered in New York City. Local ensembles have performed and premiered their concert band pieces, including Omaha Symphonic Winds in Omaha, Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Lincoln Public Schools Los Mariachis de la Ciudad Estrella with the Lincoln Community Concert Band. Omaha Symphonic Winds has premiered two band pieces (The Dreams That Haunt Us and Poseidon), and the band at Lincoln High School has premiered one (This is the Way the World Ends: A Bluesy Apocalypse).
Currently, Dr. McCullough teaches elementary band in Omaha Public Schools and enjoys writing music for bands of all ages and electroacoustic music that combines live instruments with electronic music. As a musician, Dr. McCullough performs with River City Mixed Chorus and in Omaha Symphonic Winds, both based in Omaha, Nebraska.
